Dragon Ball: The Breakers - Best Strategies For Majin Buu
Majin Buu is one of the playable Raiders in Dragon Ball: The Breakers, and he's also the one released after both Frieza and Cell, which means that many players don't really know how he works or how to play him just yet.

So, let's go over what exactly Majin Buu is, how he differs from the other two Raiders, and what strategies players should keep in mind when playing as him in the well-thought-out yet decently flawed Dragon Ball: The Breakers.
How Buu Is Different From Other Raiders
But, how is Buu different from Cell or Freiza in Dragon Ball: The Breakers? Well, mainly, he's more mechanically complex. While Cell and Freiza really just focus on taking down Survivors and NPCs to get through their Stages as fast as possible, Buu has a few key differences in his progression from Spopovich to Kid Buu:
- His 1st Stage, Spopovich, requires that players return back to the Buu Egg to fill it with Evolution Energy before Innocent Buu, his 2nd Stage, comes out.
- His 2nd Stage, Innocent Buu, has no method of locating enemies like any other Raider Stage in the game such as Cell's Ki Detection or Frieza's Summons, and has to rely on vision alone for hunting people down.
- Lastly, after reaching enough Evolution Energy to go to Stage 4, Kid Buu, Super Buu sucks all the remaining players inside himself using Total Absorption where they're trapped for a certain amount of time or until they find and interact with "Good Buu" somewhere in the arena.
All this to say, Buu absolutely does have a bit more complexity and wackiness going on as a Raider than Freiza's Namekian gimmick or Cell's relatively basic gameplay loop.
How Is Buu Strong & Where Is He Weak?
Now, from a gameplay standpoint, why should players use Majin Buu as their Raider-of-choice instead of Cell or Frieza? Where does this character excel compared to others and where is he weak? Well, let's break it down into segmented pros and cons:
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Spopovich is likely the strongest Stage 1 Raider form across all the Raiders thanks to his fantastic Ki Blasts and useful Super Attacks. | If Spopovich doesn't have a fast start, he can really struggle in the late game compared to Freiza or Cell who can usually make it work regardless. |
When using Summon Yamu and Energy Drain correctly, Spopovich can go to Stage 2 absurdly quickly. | Against a team of Power Key-rushing Survivors all using their best Skills, Buu is basically forced into a fight at Stage 2 during the Super Time Machine Phase and there's not much they can do to avoid this. |
Innocent Buu's Angry Shout is one of the better evasive Active Skills and can be used alongside his Angry Explosion Super Attack to throw enemies off twice in a row and turn their attack against them. | Flying back to the Buu Egg to transform almost always wastes time and is never enjoyable for the player. |
Go-Go Gum, an Active Skill Buu gets from Stage 2 onward, is fantastic for locking down enemies from afar or canceling out their approach. Also, it's a Skill that Survivors can gain from Buu's Transphere as well. | Innocent Buu is Buu's weakest Stage by far and where he can be bullied and avoided by the Survivors relatively easily. |
Super Buu, which is Stage 3, keeps both Angry Shout and Go-Go Gum while also adding Ki Detection. | Innocent Buu doesn't have a way of locating players like Summons or Ki Detection and has the slowest flying speed in the game. |
Ill Bomber, which is available at Stage 3 and Stage 4, is a great way to disengage or sneak up on unaware Survivors. | Innocent Buu's Ki Blasts only hit once per volley, unlike the other two Raiders who can down an unlucky Survivor in a single volley. |
Total Absorption is basically a "lose condition" for the Survivors the majority of the time and it even pauses the Super Time Machine phase while active. | Additionally, Innocent Buu's overall damage output is low. His Ki Blasts deal laughable damage and Innocence Cannon, while it has good tracking, isn't very powerful either. |
Kid Buu's Assault Rain Super Attack is unbelievably strong and can clean up sneaky Survivors who think they're in a great hiding spot. | All of Buu's Raider Skill Turn Into Candy executions are much slower compared to the two other Raiders, even on Civilians, and can easily be interrupted by smart players. |
General Strategies For All Majin Buu Stages
And finally, let's go over some basic strategies players should keep in mind when they're finally up to play as Majin Buu, as he is probably the Raider whose gameplay experience varies the most based on how much the player follows the most optimal strategies:
1st Stage (Spopovich) | 2nd Stage (Innocent Buu) | 3rd Stage (Super Buu) | 4th Stage (Kid Buu) |
---|---|---|---|
Spopovich is strong, but players don't want to spend too long in this form, as it'll only make it harder to win if they get stuck as Innocent Buu during the Super Time Machine Phase. | The goal is to get out of this stage as fast as possible, so pick and choose whether to focus more on Survivors or Civilians based on how much of a pain the group of Survivors has been up to this point and what Civilians the player saw during the 1st Stage. | This is the phase that Buu players will actually want to get to the Super Time Machine faster. Once they reach Super Buu, it's very difficult for the Survivors to put up a decent fight against him. | Essentially unstoppable in this Stage, but players still need to be careful of Survivors trying to escape via the regular Time Machines. |
Use Summon Yamu to scout and drain Evolution Energy from Survivors before downing them so that the Spopovich phase is shorter. If the Survivor is being tricky, Crash Launcher is a pretty reliable snipe that can even penetrate some basic terrain. | Use Go-Go Gum to lock any found Survivors down so that Innocence Cannon is basically a guaranteed hit or Buu has a moment to get into melee range. | The Energy Blast Volley Super Attack can mop up Survivors who dodge Ki Blasts well or keep trying to get close and Ill Rain is great for hitting multiple targets at once from afar. | Assault Rain literally hits any uncovered part of the map so it's best to use it right after players wake up from Total Absorption and aren't sure where the nearest cover or cave is. |
Make note of any Civilian locations Spopovich passes by while hunting people down so that the player can come back as Innocent Buu for some easy Evolution Energy. | If caught in the Super Time Machine Phase as Innocent Buu, it's very easy to get bullied. Use Angry Shout and Angry Explosion near Survivors on the Super Time Machine to knock them off or even down them while avoiding damage. | Use Ill Bomber to quickly get around the map, sneak up on an unaware Survivor, or bait Survivors into approaching the objective that Buu is waiting for them on. | At this point in the match, just have fun as it's almost impossible for the Survivors to beat Kid Buu. Maybe use Vanishing Ball and toss it at the Escape Time Machine spawn points to snipe anyone trying to get away. |
Spend a minute trying to catch and knock down some unaware Survivors near the Buu Egg before going into Stage 2 as this is the best time to get players to waste their Dragon Change meter so Innocent Buu has an easier time or just down them so that Buu can eat them after transforming. | Do not execute any downed survivors unless there's absolutely no one around to interrupt as the amount of time wasted when Buu is interrupted near the end of the animation is huge. | Try to only fill the Evolution Meter completely when the least amount of players have their Change Drive ready so that it's easy to finish them off in the Total Absorption Arena. | Really only use Ki Detection near Time Machine Beacons to confirm that no one is nearby waiting to use it when Buu flies away. |
